Czech Republic eSIM 2026: Complete Prague Travel Guide

📖 8 min🏰 Czech RepublicThe Alosea teamUpdated 2026-05-26

Heading to Prague (the City of a Hundred Spires), medieval Český Krumlov, Karlovy Vary spas or the Czech beer route? The Czech Republic packs Gothic castles, cobbled old towns, Baroque abbeys, millennia-old breweries and vibrant culture in the heart of Central Europe. To use Bolt (taxis), book a jazz session at Reduta or shoot Charles Bridge at dawn, your phone is going to do the heavy lifting. Activating a Czech Republic eSIM BEFORE you board means you walk out of Václav Havel Prague Airport (PRG) already online. In this guide: how much data, how to install, local carriers, practical tips (CZK currency, plugs, country old name), 7 UNESCO sites, off-the-beaten-path experiences, food.

WHY AN eSIM

Why an eSIM for Czech Republic

The Czech Republic is in the EU/Schengen and roaming is included in most European plans, BUT with a data cap (5-25 GB). For repeated Prague city breaks or a 2-week Czechia + neighbours trip, an Alosea eSIM avoids overages. The Czech Republic still uses the Czech crown (CZK), NOT the euro. Your home number stays active for banking SMS. Installation in 2 min via QR. And concretely on arrival at the airport? You can buy a local physical SIM at the counter, but expect to pay around €10 just for the SIM card itself — on top of the data plan. With an Alosea eSIM, you walk off the plane already connected.

HOW MUCH IT COSTS

Travel eSIM pricing

A Czech Republic travel eSIM is accessibly priced — below any roaming overage. Price depends on data volume (5 GB Prague weekend, unlimited for Erasmus), validity (7/15/30 days), Central Europe bundling. A physical Czech SIM (O2 CZ, T-Mobile CZ, Vodafone CZ) requires in-store activation. For exact pricing, see our destination page.

MUST-SEE PLACES

Top iconic places

01

Historic Centre of Prague

UNESCO since 1992. Charles Bridge (Karlův most, 14th century, Baroque statues), Prague Castle (the world's largest ancient castle by area per Guinness, 70,000 m²), St Vitus Cathedral, Old Town (Staré Město), Jewish Quarter (Josefov), Astronomical Clock (1410, one of the world's oldest still operating).

Prague's Astronomical Clock (« Orloj ») was built in 1410 by clockmaker Mikuláš of Kadaň and mathematician Jan Šindel. By legend (likely false), Prague's city council blinded the builder so he could never build another. The clock still works after 600+ years, with hourly figure parade.

02

Český Krumlov

Perfectly preserved medieval town, UNESCO since 1992. Renaissance castle (Czechia's second-largest after Prague), Vltava meanders, 18th-century Baroque theatre (oldest preserved Baroque theatre in Europe with original sets).

Český Krumlov escaped WWII bombing due to special status, but also because the local German population was expelled in 1945 under the Beneš decrees, and the town fell into 40-year oblivion under the communist regime. This « hibernation » paradoxically preserved its medieval centre intact.

03

Historic Centre of Telč

Small Renaissance town, UNESCO since 1992. Main square (náměstí Zachariáše z Hradce) lined with colourful Renaissance and Baroque facades, Renaissance castle, artificial lakes.

Telč was rebuilt after a 1530 fire by master Zachariáš of Hradec, who imposed Renaissance architectural unity on the entire main square. It's one of the world's rare examples of a 100 % Renaissance square still intact.

Kutná Hora and its ossuary

Medieval city, UNESCO since 1995. Gothic St Barbara's Cathedral (14th-16th century), former silver capital of Europe. Sedlec cemetery with its ossuary of 40,000-70,000 human skeletons arranged in chandelier, coats of arms, sculptures. 1 hour train from Prague.

The Sedlec ossuary owes its macabre decorations to wood-carver František Rint, hired in 1870 by the Schwarzenberg family to « arrange » bones accumulated since the 14th century (Black Death, Hussite Wars). He created a chandelier, cups and signed his work... in bones.

Karlovy Vary (Carlsbad)

Historic spa town, UNESCO since 2021 (Great Spa Towns of Europe). 12 thermal springs (30-72°C), neo-classical colonnades, Belle Époque hotels. Frequented by Goethe, Beethoven, Marx, Freud, Sissi. International Film Festival in July (2nd largest in Central Europe).

Karlovy Vary's 13th spring is, by local humorous convention, « Becherovka » — local bitter liqueur with 32 herbs, created in 1807. Symbol of Czech folklore, it's the after-meal digestif par excellence. Its exact recipe is kept secret by only 2 people in Karlovy Vary.

Holy Trinity Column of Olomouc

35 m Baroque monument built 1716-1754, UNESCO since 2000. Late Baroque style with exceptional sculptural finesse. Olomouc, former episcopal seat and 6th Czech city, deserves a visit (Horní náměstí square, Renaissance fountains, university).

The Holy Trinity Column was started by sculptor Václav Render, who bequeathed his fortune to the construction. But Render died before completion, and the project was finished by other artists over 38 years. It's one of the largest and most richly decorated Baroque ensembles in Central Europe.

Brno and Villa Tugendhat

Second Czech city, Moravia. Villa Tugendhat by Mies van der Rohe (1929-1930), UNESCO since 2001 — jewel of the modern movement in architecture. Špilberk Castle (fortress) and catacombs. Janáček international opera festival.

Famous START nuclear arms reduction treaty negotiations between USA and USSR took place partly at Villa Tugendhat in the 1960s-70s — internationalist modernist architecture was considered neutral ground. Mies van der Rohe emigrated to the USA in 1938 fleeing Nazism, designing Manhattan's Seagram Building there.
